Two very typical Portuguese cities. Aveiro is known as the Portuguese Venice. Coimbra is a former capital of the country and today is known as the student’s city.
Aveiro is a city of singular beauty. It is located by the ocean and the canals fulfill the city with a unique beauty. You will stroll through the city canals on board a “moliceiro” – the traditional boats including a historical explanation about its importance for the history of the city.
Afterwards, it`s time to wander through the old quarter, see the main emblematic buildings of Art Nouveau, the fish market and taste one of the local delicacies: sweets eggs!
Our tour continues onto Costa Nova: the magnificent fishing village with its wooden houses in bright striped colors. A unique place!
Time to set off towards Coimbra. Once in the city center, lunch will be at a very traditional restaurant. Our afternoon begins through the streets of the historical center and with a visit to the Church of Santa Cruz, where the remains of the first King of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, lies.
Coimbra had a significant historical importance in the construction and diffusion of the Portuguese language and culture and, today, it is as city of the students that proudly presents itself. To reach this World Heritage Site, we`ll walk up the medieval streets, pass through the Almedina Gate and Tower and meet the fantastic Old Cathedral on our way.
The University of Coimbra is the oldest university in the country and one of the first universities in Europe.
