In this tour, the walk difficulty level is easy/medium! You`ll walk only 5km and downstream!

Short description: You`ll go across one of the longest suspension bridges of the world and walk one of the most beautiful trails: The Paiva Walkways! Visit one of the highlights of Portugal: Costa Nova, and Aveiro, the Portuguese Venice!

We leave from Porto towards Arouca town where we will stop shortly for bathrooms and coffee.

After a short drive, we`ll arrive at the Walkways and go across the Suspension Bridge! It spans 516 meters-long across the valley and hangs 175m above the Paiva river!

Notice: crossing the bridge is not mandatory. You have the option to skip it.

Then, you`ll walk the Paiva Walkways downhill in a total length of 5km over a wooden boardwalk zig-zagging along the left bank of the river. Trail Areinho-Vau.

The walk will be followed by another highlight of our day: lunch! (fish and vegetarian options also available)

After a power nap in the van, we`ll arrive to Costa Nova! Costa Nova is one of the highlights of Portugal – a beautiful fishing village known for its striped colorful houses!

Time to enjoy Aveiro, also known as the “Portuguese Venice”! Discover the city center on a short walk, enjoy some free time and relax on a boat trip to see the charming city through the canals!

Finish the day back in Porto.

Fantastic tour, amazing lunch!
We did the tour with Norberto and we loved it. The day, although exhausting was also relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable! Norberto is a fantastic guide. I admit , I chickend out of the suspension bridge but my husband, friend and the others in our group did cross it without any issues and and enjoyed it. Lunch was absolutely delicious! Best meal so far!

The 516m long suspension bridge was fun. Great views. This is followed by a long relaxing, mostly downhill hike on wooden-plank stairs to the valley. Caring and sociable guide. Lunch provided was very delicious. Do note that it’s quite a long windy road ride to the Bridge at the start of tour so be prepares with some travel or anti-vomitting pills if needed.

This has been the best daytip I have ever booked on getyourguide. Our guide/driver Norberto was super friendly and easy to talk with so we really enjoyed his companionship. Learned plenty about Portugal and Portugese people as well. The Arouca Geopark itself is stunning and not crowded at all like it usually happens in such beautiful spots. You have an option to walk ~4 or ~7km (the guide checks with you halfway). The lunch was very good and the place was full of locals which is always a good sign. Overall, brilliant trip. Thank you!

Great day trip, great guide, great experience! We’re glad that the suspension bridge crossing was first! Exhilarating ! The walkways were fun at first, but there’s a LOT of walking after the second bridge, so beware. City visit and boat ride through canals + beach town visit was nice way to end the visit. João was a great guide! Well worth the fees.

Wonderful tour! Joao was incredibly knowledgeable, accommodating, and funny! The lunch was complimentary and some of the best food I’ve had in a while. Good for all ages/fit levels, as it’s a downhill walk most of the time.

Well Worth A Day!
We had a great time with Joao who was a great guide, informative, friendly and humorous.
After a brief stop at Arouca for a coffee and quick leg stretch, we arrived at the Paiva Walkways which were the stand out part of the tour, they were amazing. It was a really lovely walk, about 5 miles in length and very quiet. You follow alongside the river as it meanders through some stunning scenery. The suspension bridge was good too, you can take your time walking across and there’s opportunity for a good photo or two.
After the walk (and a quick drink in the bar at the end) we made our way back to Arouca to a local restaurant, Tasquinha Da Quinta, where we ate veal with rice and potatoes. It was delicious and very filling.
We made our way to Aveiro. The canals were a little strange, but the guide on board was funny and it was a pleasant journey of about 20 minutes in a large open narrowboat. Aveiro centre was good, lots of little shops and you get a break of about 40 minutes there. We were knackered by the time we got to Costa De Nova for a brief stop so we walked along the promenade. Most places weren’t open as it was out of season and it was a bit quiet.
Joao took us back to Porto where we arrived back at 6.30pm. He is a good driver and a very nice guy – we would recommend the tour, Joao and the walkways made the day.
