Aveiro, Paiva

You`ll walk along one of the most beautiful walking trails in the world: the Paiva Walkways. Afterwards, we`ll visit the beautiful city of Aveiro,  the so called “Portuguese Venice”!

The Paiva Walkaways were the winner of the World Travel Awards in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019!

It is a 8 km boardwalk through ruggedly beautiful scenery in Arouca Geopark, a UNESCO Geological site. Zig-zagging down rocky hillsides, hugging cliff faces and winding along the left bank of the Paiva River, the walk is easy and the stairway that go up and down the valley are stunning! (Do not forget your camera!)

After the walk, is time to get back the energy you spent with a delicious traditional lunch in a typical Portuguese restaurant (another highlight of our day!).

Then we go to Aveiro. We`ll wander through the old quarter to see the main buildings of Art Nouveau, the main squares, the fish market and taste one of city`s delicacies: sweet-eggs!

Finally, it’s time to board on a “moliceiro” – the traditional boats of the Aveiro canals – and see the city through its canals.

Our tour carries on towards Costa Nova to visit the magnificent fishing village with its wooden houses in bright striped colors.

Notice: To arrive to the Paiva Walkways, we need to go over the mountain. The road gets a bit winding. For those who have car motion sickness problems, we advise you to have a tablet or a pill to help with that issue. It´s not bad at all, but… just in case! 🙂

Bellissima esperienza nella natura ed un tocco di Portogallo indimenticabile

An excellent walk, lunch and opportunity to do some sight seeing. A great day out.

Very nice experience, has everything from light hiking to sightseeing including a very delicious meal, and a boatride. Norbeto is really nice and knowledgeable. You will have fun with him I absolutely recomend.

Super sympa …. A faire!

Expérience très sympa, je recommande vivement!

An excellent day out with good variety of activities and scenery. The walk is incredibly beautiful and, today, wasn’t at all busy. I was a bit concerned about the ascents and especially descents but it was well within my capability and I really enjoyed it. It was good to be with such a friendly and supportive group of people.

Stunning scenery, food and a variety of locations all fitted into a fantastic day’s tour of the surrounding areas of Porto. The walkways themselves are UNESCO protected for a reason, that’s because they are breath-taking. The walk was well planned and the “tough bit” was put at the start of the walk so that the rest was easy to achieve. A brief stop in a local restaurant for a traditional Sunday lunch where the service and food were exceptional. Onwards to the Venice of Portugal in Averio and an enjoyable boat ride together with a brief lesson in the history of the town. A meander thorough the town down to the markets, finishing off with a sweet tasting pastry was enjoyable. Not finished yet, we were then taken to Cosa Nova, a beautiful old fishing village with colourful houses and a story well worth hearing. We would strongly recommend this trip to family and friends without hesitation.

Norberto was awesome. The trip was fantastic. The walkways can be difficult if you’re not used to physical activity, but Norberto starts is at the hard part and it’s all down hill from there. The boat ride in Aveiro was pretty great. We had an enthusiastic guide. Loved this experience. It’s a must do.

We had a beautiful day walking the beautiful wooden paths of Paiva, going by boat on the channels of Aveiro, eating in a local restaurant, and seeing the colorful Costa Nova houses. Norberto is gifted as a tour guide and wants, more manages to make all participants happy, comfortable, and welcome.

Awesome experience!!!

Norberto made this incredible day with his passion for the area and his stories. This was a once in a lifetime experience which I highly recommend. Need some level of fitness to make the walk but what a wonderful accomplishment! Thank you!

Door to door service with excellent experience throughout the day, what more can one ask for? Starting with Paiva walkways be prepared for a decent 2-1/2 hr hike along the scenic Paiva river. The lunch place was excellent. The stroll through Aviero and canal ride was great and last stop of seaside town Costa Nova was picturesque and a cherry on top to end our day trip. Got to see south of Porto which I work have not been able to do on my own.
