The North of Portugal offers extraordinary places for hikers. In order to live and feel the geography, the rural places, the gastronomy, the nature, the architectural and cultural heritage, we have chosen carefully 4 magnificent hiking trails.

Namely: the Ermelo Walking Path, in Alvão Natural Park, 12.4 km long; a hike to the mountain top, in Marão Mountain, with 12.6 km; the Chasing Dolmens trail, in Aboboreira Mountain, with 16.8 km, and a hike Into the Douro Vineyards, in the heart of the Douro Valley, with a length of 17 km.

In addition to these routes, you will always stay in hotels or rural tourism houses, whose location has been strategically chosen so that you can have contact with the local population, their way of life and the surrounding architectural and landscape.

At the end of each hiking day, you`ll be taken to your accommodation and you will be able to taste dishes and typical Portuguese food, try the region’s wines and always in traditional and local restaurants.

This is one of the best and healthiest ways to meet the real Portugal, the one that hides in the countryside, far from the circuits most beaten by the usual tourist offer.

Like Debra P, we had a wonderful experience doing 5 days hiking with Norberto. We had already been 2 weeks un Portugal but felt this trip took us to some places off the beaten track. The trip gave us a feel for rural life, including a vanishing way of life in the small mountain villages. Norberto is an easygoing, highly knowledgeable guide with a passion for his country – this made the trip very special, along with the lovely places we stayed. Highly recommend his hiking trips if you like a mix of pleasant walking, history, culture and gastronomy.

Four Days of Hiking in Northern Portugal!
If I could rate it higher than 5 stars I would. Norberto carefully arranged every detail about our four days with him, from picking us up in the morning, packing a lunch, sharing his knowledge of the natural surroundings as well as opening a window in to a way of life that is rapidly disappearing. That is– small hillside villages that are now left to elders to tend– a garden, the goats and preserve traditions they have always known. The hikes we chose were Ermelo Path, Marao Mountain, The Heart of the Douro Vineyards/Valley, and Chasing Dolmens. He guided us on each, prepared a special place for us to stay, and shared with us traditional foods along the way. From Petiscos (small plates) to Vinho Verde and Port, grapes, olives, sausage, so many delights! We learned so much about this beautiful country and enjoyed Norberto’s company each step of the way. We were a little concerned about the length of the hikes and the terrain for us (60 plus years). We managed to pace ourselves to complete the hikes (Some up and down, rocky terrain) without difficulty, and a feeling of well-being that we could do it! It turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Thank you Norberto for sharing the rich traditions of your country as well as the kilometers together.
