In this tour, the walk difficulty level is Medium/Difficult! You`ll walk 7km, but downstream!
We leave from Porto at 8AM towards Arouca town where we will stop shortly for bathrooms and for coffee.
Get ready for adventure! After a short drive, we will arrive at the Walkways and go across one of the Longest Suspension Bridges of the World – The 516 Arouca! It spans 516m-long (1,692ft) across the valley and hangs 175m (576ft) above the Paiva river!
NOTICE: crossing the bridge is NOT mandatory. You have the option to skip it.
Then, you will walk the Paiva Walkways downhill in a total length of 7km over a wooden boardwalk zig-zagging downhill along the left bank of the river.
Bring a swimsuit! At the halfway point of the trail, you find the Vau beach! You will have some free time to dive and swim or just put your feet on the clean waters of the Paiva river.
Please notice: make sure you bring a second set of clothes as you cannot get in the van with wet clothes!
The walk will be followed by another highlight of our day: lunch! A delicious meal is deserved and it will take place at a beautiful typical restaurant! Meat, fish or vegetarian options available.
After lunch we’ll discover Arouca for a glance about local culture and history including convent sweets tasting related to Arouca Monastery.
Return to Porto.

A perfect adventure!
This was a perfect way to get to see the footbridge and the walkways. Our operator Sarah was a true gem, and was incredibly kind and organized through the process. We always knew where to be, what was going on, and had enough freedom to explore on her own! It’s that balance that you dream for when on a larger group trip. Using this tour made the process of this special park SO much easier, and I am shocked folks would ever consider doing it on their own. Seriously, book this trip now. One last tip: A person in our group was too afraid to do the footbridge, and our tour operator was able to bring them to the beginning on the walkways, without any fuss! A huge advantage as well.
Walkway adventure second to none!
What a fantastic trip. Perfectly organised from start to finish with Sarah as our brilliant guide. The footbridge was a great experience and the Paiva walkways were beautiful. Lunch was in a fantastic location and the food was delicious. A short stop in Arouca was also included. I would highly recommend this trip.
The walk was amazing we got to see so many great views and take many photos, Phillip (our tour guide) was really caring about showing everyone the great views and food, he made sure everyone was happy.
Great day out!
Really good day out. Great communcation beforehand and then the day went really smoothly. Tour guide (Filipe) was great – very knowledgeable and interesting. Loved the walk across the suspension bridge and the Paiva walkways. Stopped in local restaurant for delcious lunch then stopped for a short explore of Arouca town before heading back to Porto. Would recommend!
Tolle Wanderung.
Super das wir die Treppen nur runter und nicht hoch mussten.
Super fun! A great experience. Be prepared to do a fair bit of walking and don’t forget to bring water especially if it is hot out. Couple of bars along the way to grab water or a beer. Norberto was an excellent guide and host. Delicious traditional lunch.
Einzigartiges Erlebnis!
Fabulous experience!
Our tour guide Filipe was fun, friendly, engaging and informative. A great value no hassle tour with a delicious lunch included. The suspension bridge was a fabulous piece of engineering and gave you a very different perspective of the river and walkway. The walkway was beautiful and so in keeping with it’s natural environment. We were even accompanied by goats (that graze on the banks) part of the way!! I would highly recommend.
Très bonne expérience à la hauteur de nos attentes! Norberto est un très bon guide, passionné et passionnant!!
This experience has been amazing. Norberto does everything he can to make this trip as pleasant as possible. You are too afraid to cross the bridge? Norberto takes you to the other side by car. You are too tired after half of the walkway? Norberto picks you up there and brings you to the restaurant. You don’t like meat? Norberto arranges different meals. The entire trip is very carefully planned and is an absolute joy to be part in. A big plus is that Norberto gives lots of insights into the rural living of Portugal and many nice historical infos as well. The bridge itself is an absolute stunner but the real gem is the Paiva Walkways themselves which lead you through stunning sceneries and are very well maintained. Highly recommended to do this trip!
