Let`s explore Guimarães, known as the cradle of the nation! And Braga, an ancient Roman city!

We start by visiting the Guimarães Castle, symbol of the beginning of the Portuguese nation, followed by a visit to the Chapel of S. Miguel and Palace of the Dukes of Braganza, where you`ll get to know the detailed historical background.

Afterwards, walk down the oldest street of the city to the UNESCO medieval city center where you will be dazzled by centuries-old beauty. Another landmark is the mythical inscription on the city wall saying “Here was born Portugal”.

After lunch, it is time to discover Braga. Visit one of the most beautiful and imposing sanctuaries in the country with amazing views over Braga: the Good Jesus Sanctuary with it’s impressively beautiful staircase.

Time to explore the city center: marvel at the Cathedral of Braga, the oldest monument in Portugal! Wander around the modern center, see the gardens of Santa Bárbara, the Gate of the city and the main squares and streets.

Return to Porto.

Wonderful trip. Norberto picked us up on time on a nice clean van, was very professional and had a great knowledge of Portuguese history. More important it was more like going with a friend than tour guide. Norberto provided a wonderful historical tour of Guimaraes and Braga with a little “local” history thrown in. Lunch was delicious! Many thanks for a wonderful day.

The day trip to Guimaras and Braga was very well conducted by Norberto. He was very knowledgeable and informative. We would take a trip with Norberto again.

Norberto gave us a fantastic tour around Guimaraes and Braga. We had a lovely day — a special highlight was the amazing lunch we had with vino verde in the mountains where he regaled us with his travel stories!
We also really appreciated that he could pick us up in Amarante (rather than Porto).
Thank you!

Noberto was a fantastic guide. I have taken tours all over the world, and he is one of the most knowledgeable guides that I have encountered. I was lucky enough to take this tour on my first day in Portugal, and his detailed history of northern Portugal and how it was relevant to each stop actually made my entire trip better by giving me a unique historical perspective of the region and the country. Braga and Guimaraes are two excellent stops, and I often see it recommended that a day in each is better, but I felt like the time at each location was perfect.
