In this tour, the walk difficulty level is Medium/Difficult! You`ll walk 7km, but downstream!
We leave from Porto at 8AM towards Arouca town where we will stop shortly for bathrooms and for coffee.
Get ready for adventure! After a short drive, we will arrive at the Walkways and go across one of the Longest Suspension Bridges of the World – The 516 Arouca! It spans 516m-long (1,692ft) across the valley and hangs 175m (576ft) above the Paiva river!
NOTICE: crossing the bridge is NOT mandatory. You have the option to skip it.
Then, you will walk the Paiva Walkways downhill in a total length of 7km over a wooden boardwalk zig-zagging downhill along the left bank of the river.
Bring a swimsuit! At the halfway point of the trail, you find the Vau beach! You will have some free time to dive and swim or just put your feet on the clean waters of the Paiva river.
Please notice: make sure you bring a second set of clothes as you cannot get in the van with wet clothes!
The walk will be followed by another highlight of our day: lunch! A delicious meal is deserved and it will take place at a beautiful typical restaurant! Meat, fish or vegetarian options available.
After lunch we’ll discover Arouca for a glance about local culture and history including convent sweets tasting related to Arouca Monastery.
Return to Porto.

A great way to see the natural surroundings of porto Joăo was really nice and knowledgable
I’m not overstating it when I say this was one of the best days of my trip! Definitely worth it. Joao was a friendly guide who gave us lots of interesting facts and tips for Porto and Portugal during the drive. I felt I learnt a lot and want to read further. The bridge and walkway are beautiful and we were lucky it wasn’t too hot or busy. A nice nature break away from city stops. Lunch was delicious and portions were so generous. Maybe just have a small breakfast so you have room for it all! Because then there were plenty of sweet treats to try! All in all I would recommend this particular tour!
Great trip! The guide was excellent. Food was provided and was more than enough. Bring water. There is a bathroom break halfway through. Met some great new friends on the trip. You will have a great time.
A wonderful day. Our guide explained the last century of Portuguese history in relation to the land on the way to the Arouca suspension Bridge and the Pavia walkways. He then picked us up and took us to a unique Portuguese lunch experience in local restaurants before taking us back to Porto. A wonderful experience not to be forgotten!
Had tasty authentic meal and green wine in Arouca and sweets in the town square, great guide!
The view was amazing, exhilarating feeling crossing a bridge that high, twice! Eco park is beautiful as are the walkways, even saw some goats!
We loved this outing and had a great time! The views from the bridge and the trails were beautiful. Really enjoyed the local lunch and the small town. Would recommend this experience for a day trip out of Porto!
A perfect day out. Our guide was superb and the walking was superb
It was a special experience, not just the suspension bridge, but also the nice hike alongside the waterfall. If you have a day to spare, this is one you should consider.
