In this tour, the walk difficulty level is Medium/Difficult! You`ll walk 7km, but downstream!
We leave from Porto at 8AM towards Arouca town where we will stop shortly for bathrooms and for coffee.
Get ready for adventure! After a short drive, we will arrive at the Walkways and go across one of the Longest Suspension Bridges of the World – The 516 Arouca! It spans 516m-long (1,692ft) across the valley and hangs 175m (576ft) above the Paiva river!
NOTICE: crossing the bridge is NOT mandatory. You have the option to skip it.
Then, you will walk the Paiva Walkways downhill in a total length of 7km over a wooden boardwalk zig-zagging downhill along the left bank of the river.
Bring a swimsuit! At the halfway point of the trail, you find the Vau beach! You will have some free time to dive and swim or just put your feet on the clean waters of the Paiva river.
Please notice: make sure you bring a second set of clothes as you cannot get in the van with wet clothes!
The walk will be followed by another highlight of our day: lunch! A delicious meal is deserved and it will take place at a beautiful typical restaurant! Meat, fish or vegetarian options available.
After lunch we’ll discover Arouca for a glance about local culture and history including convent sweets tasting related to Arouca Monastery.
Return to Porto.

Tour Reviews
It was a windy, rainy day, but that just added to the adventure of hiking the Paiva Walkways and crossing the Arouca Suspension Bridge! Our guide was kind, helpful and informative. The provided lunch, after the hike, in a local restaurant was delicious, and well earned! The sweets from the bakeshop were fun to try, and the monestary was beautiful.
It was raining, but it was an experiance and the guide was perfect.
Excelente!
the bridge was a great experience. the boardwalk was an 8k walk with stunning views along the way .the food was fantastic and the green wine went so well with the meal and to finish with the sweet pastries rounded the day off perfectly
Joao was the loveliest tour guide with interesting stories about all areas of culture and history. The actual experience ran smoothly and the day was amazing. Such beautiful views and lovely cuisine too :)) 10/10 🙂
Walking Bridges with Children!
Great way to experience Portugal‘s beautiful countryside. I took my 4 children with me (ages 9 to 16). Our guide was great with them. He would check in with us and the others on the tour because of the heat and distance. Could not have asked for a better time. And the food we got to experience was amazing!!!
Ricardo went above and beyond to make our day a fantastic experience. Very knowledgeable and with a great sense of humour, he organised every activity very well with the assumption that people in our small group may have different needs and dietary requirements. You could choose between a full walk or partial walk – we did a full one, and highly recommend it. It’s not difficult, very pleasant and you can take it at a chilled pace to admire views. The suspension bridge is quite an experience, but it’s worth walking through 🙂 We had a fantastic, filling meal in a local town and an additional small tour around the area. I personally think it’s worth more than we paid for, Ricardo was brilliant, extremely kind and helpful and it was a pleasure to spend whole day with him ☺️
